Make some noise!

Now that the season is finally here and games are actually being played, I say that we all have an obligation to go watch our team and to come in here tonight or in the morning to report what we saw, talk about how good, or bad, our team is, and do that arguing that makes this site so much fun. Don’t wait until next Friday to show up with your take.

Vancleave beat Greene County 49-20! Just about every media outlet picked Greene County to win by 20! Our tailback John Peterson #1 rushed 30 times for 355 yards and scored 6 touchdowns. He needs to get some looks! The defense has improved. The bar has been set high for the dogs for sure!

well i didnt make it in here sat am but here is my report.

Picayune packed the visitor side at Poplarville. made a ton of noise. weather was great… fall-like.  a lot of people arrived unprepared to use gofan for tickets.

Both teams gave great effort. both looked strong, especially for week 1. refs looked like they were trying but they were not good. not blowing the whistle to end plays lead to a chippy game with a lot of penalties and fighting. these teams respect each other but refs caused all that. was a fun game otherwise. glad football is back!

I'm not 100% sure how much you can attribute this to our offensive line or Greene County's defensive line, but those big guys up front were knocking the GCHS d line back significantly most every play.  Big test Friday nite in the Kiln, because Hancock held Vancleave to our lowest offensive output of the season in 2021.  (10 points)

I have noticed a theme for going on 5 years now that referees let plays go much longer than they used to when it seems an offensive player's forward momentum has been halted.  Up until 2016, when I was coaching, plays weren't prolonged like this.  Not sure if there was a point of emphasis several years ago or what but I've definitely noticed.

I agree the offensive line played out of their cleats! Especially with the injuries and youth they’re playing through right now. I hope they can keep it going against the Hawks!

right. but not just forward progress. in this particular game guys were on the ground and no whistle so of course the hits keep coming and kids get up mad. fortunately nobody hurt.

Going back to the original topic, I'm really looking forward to seeing improvement by Vancleave from last season's performance vs Hancock to this season's.  HHS blitzed most of the nite, slanted and shot gaps well and really through a wrench into the whole offensive attack - only 10 points scored.  Seeing from last Friday's game, VHS will still be in the I Form 99% of the time, I hope toe see a complete turnaround vs 2021, especially the offensive line vs Hancock.  The o-line looked outstanding versus Greene County - hope that continues Friday.
