The only remaining team Prep could beat at this point is PCS. Hartfield and Yazoo are both bigger and have more talent on both sides of the ball. Tack on a first round win and a probable playoff game loss in the semifinals and you have a 6-7 record.

I think Prep could beat JA and Yazoo City. Yazoo isn't as good as a year ago and I think JA is a little overrated. I think people are overlooking Hartfield though. Wouldn't surprise me to see them in the chip with MRA.

The only way I see JA-Prep being close is if it turns into a crazy rivalry game like the Egg Bowl or something. JA has good skill players and a solid defense but also a bad quarterback. However that quarterback is a better athlete and quarterback than anyone that Prep has right now.

That could happen. It's difficult to get a handle on how competitive Hartfield really is given its competition to date. But it undoubtedly has a very good running back in Davis and a good QB.

JA's defense is really good. But its offense has serious issues. The O-Line is questionable, the QB runs very well but does not throw as well as he probably needs to fully run the offense, and the passing game is overly reliant on Dakota Jordan. When facing teams with fewer athletes, JA can work around these issues. But when stepping up in competition, as it did with MRA, its problems become pretty apparent. And its offensive coordinator hasn't shown any ability to adapt - frankly, he's been pretty bad.

Prep is improving but JA undoubtedly has better athletes in the skill positions. JA' Achilles heel is its offensive line. Prep has the ability to take advantage of that. I wouldn't be surprised if this game were closer than expected.

The reason why JA's offensive line is bad is because they are a small o-line. However prep's o-line and d-line are even smaller than JA.

This is spot on. JA's o-line is horrible. I watched Hartfield and JA against Pillow and Hartfield was by far the more impressive team. JA is also without Harris right now from a leg injury. JA and Prep is always a competitive game too. Outside of a few years where JA was terrible, they still usually make it a fun game. I fully expect it to be as crazy of a game as it usually it.

"Time will tell whether Prep 'will be lucky to be .500 at season's end.' It sits at 4-2 now, with games against MRA, JA, PCS, Hartfield, and Yazoo City remaining. Prep will likely lose to MRA. It is probable that it will lose to JA, but don't be surprised if that game is closer than anticipated. Prep, in my opinion, will likely beat PCS, Hartfield and Yazoo City. This would render a 7-4 record. If they win 2 of 3, Prep would have a 6-5 record."

Well, look's like the reports of Prep's demise were premature. Prep now sits at 6-3 with games against Hartfield and PCS remaining. My guess is that, at worst, Prep splits those two games and finishes the regular season at 7-4. If it wins both, which it certainly can do, Prep will finish the regular season at 8-3.

I wouldn't say lucky. Paxton Thompson has really developed as a quarterback and will be solid for years to come. Their defense is starting to gel. They are definitely getting better and have a good chance against Hartfield if they play well. They won't win the championship, but they will finish the year as a pretty solid team.

you might not say "lucky", but I adhere to the word.

Tried to recruit? Either it did recruit or it didn't? And if it did, that's perfectly acceptable. Prep's a private school. It wouldn't exist without recruiting. Nor would JA, MRA, Hartfield, St. Joe, or any other private school.

Prep didn’t do that. If it happened, it was after Black left and it was a parent who owns a limo service. RB doesn’t play that way

. . . wouldn't exist without recruiting? I'll assume you just worded that badly. Regardless it's totally untrue. Most private schools don't recruit. The ones that do are pretty easy to pick out. With that said, you are correct about it being acceptable, as long as their tuition isn't subsidized. Per MAIS rules, any student receiving finanacial assistance isn't allowed to play sports. For whatever reason MAIS is just crap at enforcing it. We all know it happens but it's mainly at the larger and more wealthy schools. There are a few exceptions but not many.

They are crap at enforcing it. MRA started the recruiting cycle with hoops years ago. Well known businessman was determined they were going to build the best team, so he paid for Northwest Rankin kids to go to MRA. It helped the football program as well. Said businessman moved youngest to Hartfield and continued SPONSORING kids to attend. Now it’s come to MRA bringing in a kid from north ms who announced it like a college player on Twitter.

The MAIS rules do not prohibit schools from providing financial assistance. They prohibit schools from providing assistance solely for athletic reasons. The rules are very easy to circumvent and equally difficult for the MAIS to enforce. Plus, MRA has long-been the most widespread "bender" of the rules. The MAIS head is an MRA parent and his wife works for MRA. Nothing will be done to MRA.

Hartfield has big money donors who have adopted MRA's strategy. One well-known donor actively solicits football players to attend and is covering the tuition for more than a few kids.
