I don't see it as a problem, but if it is a problem, it the school's decision which you have a problem with. I also don't see how they are abusing the system any more than getting a job elsewhere. It is also a money thing for these private schools. Having a proven winner coaching might bring in more tuition paying students. Too many young coaches think they are ready to be a head coach. How is being abused? PERS is paying them regardless. If they didn't work anywhere, if they decide to coach at a private school, if they coach out of state, if they work at Walmart, etc . . . they are still getting paid. These guys are not "abusing" the system. They've put in their time (25 years or more) and have chosen to begin drawing their PERS, which is by the letter of the law. Your issue should be with the MAIS schools that hire them, not the coaches themselves. It would be no different if they chose to retire and go to another state and coach, or go into the private sector and get a "normal" job. PERS retirees working in the MAIS is not a new phenomenon. Bobby Hall, David Justice, Mac Barnes just to name a few.
