greenandgoldhawk
The last week of regular season football is here. As usual, some seedings for the playoffs will be decided Friday. Looking at the regions as a whole, I believe region 8 may have been the toughest region this year. After this week settles and the seedings are officially determined, I believe there will be quite a few lower seeded teams getting first round wins. Well as long as Region 1 and 4 are not paired in the first round. I dont think it will be an easy win for whoever region 8 is paired with in the first round either. Time shall tell. THURSDAY Biggersville at Thrasher Byers at Myrtle Coffeeville at Potts Camp Enterprise-Lincoln at Sacred Heart Ethel at Noxapater Falkner at Ashland French Camp at McAdams Nanih Waiya at Velma Jackson Resurrection at Lumberton Salem at East Marion Simmons at West Bolivar Smithville at West Lowndes South Delta at Shaw Stringer at Mount Olive Taylorsville at Leake County Tupelo Christian at Baldwyn Vardaman at Okolona West Tallahatchie at Leland Edited October 31 by greenandgoldhawk
MSUDawg11
Region 1 does play Region 4 in the 1st round. Barring injuries, only 2 have a realistic chance of coming out of the north, Baldwyn or Vardaman and they will play in the 3rd round. Other side of the north bracket will be a complete joke. First round region matchups are 1-4 2-3 5-8 6-7 Edited October 28 by MSUDawg11
pancho
i agree with all that. 2A north will have charleston and calhoun city meet in round 3 as well, although the other bracket isn't as weak as 1A

Maybe not in football, but Coldwater is a genetic tree of basketball/track athletes that Im sure will probably resurface soon from that community. Perhaps majority went to Independence and they move up to 4A.

I dont know how they redrew the district line. It was rumored that the dividing line went along either hwy 51 or I-55. If one of those were true then the majority of the town and students likely would go toward Strayhorn as the majority of the city sits west of those roadways. Well according what I just read if you live close to Senatobia you go there. So that's interesting.

Bill 669 passed in the legislature required an equal portion to Strayhorn and Independence. That leaves me to believe Hwy 51 was probably chosen as the dividing line. Also if they choose they can be transferred to Senatobia.
greenandgoldhawk
We shall see how it work out with the new numbers. Citizens of Leflore county as a whole is also voting for a new countywide consolidated high school this November. We shall see how that turns out and what will be the timeframe before the merger if the votes falls through. Leflore County High School is already a borderline school between 1A/2A. pancho
which schools would be combined in this case?
greenandgoldhawk
All 3 (Greenwood, Leflore County, and Amanda Elzy)
Rebel Bert
Bond vote for new 78,000 sq ft 4 buildings holding 10 to 16 classrooms each and 800 to 1200 students total. If passed MHSAA loses 2 small schools and gets a 6A/7A school in Leflore County. It loses 4A Greenwood, 3A Amanda Elzy, 1A/2A Leflore County at some point. Rebel Bert
Leflore Central Delta Lizards will have according to 2022 numbers: Greenwood 491 Amanda Elzy 307 Leflore County 186 Total 984 7A Tupelo to Region 1 and Lewisburg to 6A. I just threw a mascot name out. I am sure they will come up with school name and mascot. And we are down to 240 schools or 24-24-24-40-40-40-

You got to build it first after they have bidded it off. Site has to be determined, ground work, etc. It could take a year or so.

However With a 6 team region, either West Tally would likely join a north region, Leflore County or South Delta would join region 6 and push a region 6 team down to region 7. If im not mistaken, teams such as Calhoun CIty, Leflore County, Richton, and Sebastopol were some of the schools among the potential 1A/2A cutoff line. Strayhorn would likely increase to 2A with the addition of some of the Coldwater students. Edited October 30 by greenandgoldhawk
choctawman
Interesting, I coached at Greenwood in the late 60's and early 70's. I was there when we intergrated fully in 1970. We had some good teams. We were in Big 8 conference and had over a thousand students in 9-12. My how things have changed.
