PigskinPrognosticator
Keep waiting for Laurel to get hot but doesn’t seem to be coming. Will be an interesting 3 weeks to the finish line.
Merlin
I just want to see if south jones can meet up with and knockoff laurel. That would be fairly epic. The Laurel fans melt down would bring me much joy.

David44
Rooting for SJ but watch out for Laurel. Last few games been playing a true freshman QB. He had 6 td passes last night vs East Central.
maroontide06
Laurel fell into the abyss a long time ago. Like what @coastfootballfanmansaid, it’s going to be between Gautier and Brookhaven. I just don’t trust Gautier though.

Talking bout he was better than what they had last year. Now all excited bout this kid and “we young we bring back almost whole team”. Same thing they said last year. And the year before. slicklizard
East Central ? they are terrible . they don't play defense at all. Gautiers defense is weak sauce as usual but I don't know if anyone else has a defense that can put fear into their QB. He's ripe for it though. The refs in Brookhaven could put a stop to him and would be a game I would probably go see. Overall the new classification has not been good for in state football . It had not achieved enough growth yet to support it but thats what you get when you let Bubba Hathorne be on the team that put it together. Everything he touches is soured. Their offense is tough to defend. Their quarterback can fly and he basically makes it go. Things break down and he takes off and just out athletes folks. Defensively I have not been impressed with them. Some calls that fell their way vs. Pascagoula and Columbia helped them a lot in those wins. They are a good team, but 5A south being awful makes them seem so much better. It’s so ironic because back in 2022 when reclass dropped, so many people pegged 4-5A to be a gauntlet. And it’s been far from that.

It’s apparent. #2 If they have to go to Brookhaven as long as the game is close everyone of those first downs he picks up just taking off will come back. Guaranteed. #3 their defense is more lightweight than they were last year. I would make it a point to drive to Hattiesburg to watch West Point make them quit.
Merlin
I think the funniest thing is laurel fans still think they are the cream of the crop while being 1-7 and in a must win vs Wayne county. I had high hopes to see them somehow match up with south jones cause I would like to see if SJ could beat them.

And they have the talent to do so. But those kids, especially this year, are soft and undisciplined. It could be seen last year, but 5A south being so weak masked it. They do not respond to adversity. If they do not open up a big lead fast their entire body language will change. And it’s been something festering for a while. Their fans have them convinced they are do great they just have to be there to win. And there are numerous kids in jones county schools that know kids that are at Laurel or transferred from Laurel and they talk about how much easier their practices are at Laurel. Last years 7 losses were the beginning of what is to come. Edited October 26 by Merlin

That stunt last night is just giving them kids the moral high ground to step it up next time they feel they are wronged. They have already been sanctioned this season but it looks like they are thumbing their nose at it. Let’s don’t pretend that their bad behavior just started. It’s been going on for years in a lesser degree. They have a big problem and I would be concerned about playing them there.
