My bad if Quitman reported 320-325 then that's a 20 to 25 kids drop from last October. It seems like we are hearing lower numbers for some schools that seem much lower than normal. What are the reasons for this:

A) Some failed the 8th grade

B) Some transferred to another school

C) Some transferred to private schools

D Some transferred to Christian/Church

   schools probably with no sports

E) Drop Outs

F) Other

When do you think the MS DoE would update the numbers for 2024-25 on their site?

Who knows? Gov't never does anything timely. The MHSAA will not release until after the state championships usually .

Traditionally the week of football championships. 2 years ago Nov 3 2022. MDE is suppose to have the numbers by October 1. There is a meeting at MHSAA tomorrow. The director is responsible for classes and regions of each sport. There normally is a period where a school says no we want to be in region 4 not 5, no we don't agree with the numbers. With computer systems, etc it's likely to be few say we don't agree with numbers, etc.

I thought they released the districts for each class at that time. They usually release the numbers for each school in October don’t they?

No before the football championships  last few times. In 2022 on Nov 3 it was released by class and by region almost in consecutive days for each sport. The only meeting scheduled for legislative and executive council is October 3rd.

Is losing students in the Delta a reason for this? Is because more schools up north will shift up and down in class?

The only areas of North Miss. that are growing is just south of Memphis, around Tupelo and around Oxford.

I was just told that Raleigh turned in between 220-225. I was also told they will be most likely the largest 2A. And that they will be 2A. Where the 19 to 25 kids went to since last October I don’t know.  It is a gain of at least 9 to 14 from 2022 Reclassification. With that being said, 2023 Comparison School to the right:

2022 Bottom 5 3A.         2023

Mantatchie 231.          Collins 226

Wesson 227.               Wesson 225

East Webster 227.      Scott Cent 223

Enterprise Clarke 223. St Andrew's ???

Perry Central 222.        East Union 221

2022 Top 5 2A

St Andrew's 221.          Hatley 219

Union 220.                    Wilk Co. 217

Water Valley 218.         Clarkdale 215

Charleston 215.           Perry Cent 214

Pisgah 214.                  O'Bannon 213

2022 Bottom 5 2A

West Lincoln 162.        Leake Co 168

Hamilton 161.              Bog Chitto 165

Ingomar 160.               W Lincoln 159

Richton 158.                 Velma Jck 155

Sebastopol 157.           Smithville 155

2022 Top 5 1A

East Marion 156.          T'ville. 155

Enterprise Lincoln 154. Hamilton 153

Velma Jackson 151.     Leflore Co 153

Strayhorn 151.               Calh City 152

Pine Grove 151.            W Tally 152

I think it's safe to say splits will be in the same range. Interesting to see who goes where.

I had Byhalia (336) and Shannon (343) both dropping to 3A with Shannon as the largest after 2023 numbers. Amory will be 3A and probably will float. Tornado probably had some looking for home outside Amory.

5 schools will determine the final 2A numbers:          2022.         2023

Collins.                206.           226

Wesson.              227.           225

Scott Central.     186.           223

St Andrew's.        221.             ?

Enterprise Clarke 223.         201

Are the numbers being publicized today?

I believe they will be looked at. I just don't know if any school will protest their numbers. I think they may get a week to look over the numbers and agree. Then a week to agree on class and region. And they had 2 weeks plus for most. I think when the director classifies every school that is final when the committee has agreed. Any school can request a specific region to play in. I don't believe it happens very often.

Majority of the smaller classifications schools are north of I-20. in 1A only 2 districts are below I-20. In 2 and 3A there are 3 below 1-20 and 1 that is along I-20. North Mississippi has many small towns with small schools. Over they years these schools have been less open to consolidation that has happened more frequently in South Mississippi. Now a a days when districts consolidate is most often state mandated. The Delta has recently seen some consolidation, but in south Mississippi most small schools have consolidated years ago. Only thing that could happen now is if districts decide to close a small school and consolidate students. I am hearing around Jackson the big 4 Private are eyeballing joining the MHSAA. I heard from a good source yesterday some talks have already been had but the MAIS does not want them to leave. They realize if they do it will fold, but I think those four have realize for them to continue to grow and survive they can not prop up the MAIS. I think many will watch and see how the PCS deal works out this year. If that happened in the next few years we could see a large influx of private schools joining the MHSAA.

How did Raleigh go from 242 to 220-225 in one year?

Dropouts, failed 8th grade, home schooling, transfers to Sylva Bay, East Rankin, Simpson, Forest, and Morton,  etc.

School.          2022.    2023.    2024

Mize.                174.      192.      185

Raleigh.            211.      242.      220-5

Tville.                148.      155.      1??

Did certain students return to Taylorsville and do we have 3 2A schools now i don't know. How many 10th and 11th graders are taking the non college route and are classified as 11th and 12th graders. No one really knows except admin. Seems like at 1 time there were 2 or 3 transferred out every month for a while according to the news paper.
