JagsFan77
Murrah's decision to go independent was after an 0-11 season. This year they've only played schools smaller than them and are 4-0. Murrah has 995 students.... Port Gibson has 278, Jefferson County has 246, Perry Central has 222, Kosciusko has 442. If it's the coach's decision, I guess I can understand him wanting to play tiny schools for a winning record for his job security but even if they go undefeated they CAN'T make the playoffs. It just seems a bit cowardly to not even try to compete in your own class.

What's wrong with letting them participate as an independent in a sport or two knowing they will not be able to participate for a gold ball? Why tell them no team can participate for a gold ball if their one sport remains independent? That's my problem with their precious"bylaws". The MHSAA doesn't enforce the rest of their handbook laws with such force.
Rebel Bert
MHSAA has removed the article regarding the form for reclassification. Perhaps all forms are in.
Sharper
Clinton will pretty much remain as 7A for the foreseeable future. As for Jim Hill and Forest Hill (per the US News report) has 712 and 753 students in grades 9-11 respectively (of course that was only based on 2022-23 data. ) But I am willing to bet that Jim Hill got the better end of the Wingfield closure and they would probably see a boost to around 900 students (thereby putting it on the cusp of 7A?) They have a responsibility to turn in numbers and desired sports their going to participate in so the director can place them in correct classification and region per sport. I agree. Go Independent if you want. But don't cry or call bullying if the bylaws require you to participate in ALL sports in a Region or None. Jim Hill got the one remaining Wingfield middle school feeder. How much of the high school (9-10 grades). Then we're the high school boundaries redrawn. Either way Jim Hill is going 7A I think. Forest Hill has to get like 55% of the Wingfield 9-11 grades to go 7A.

Lanier is small enough now and has its on middle school on campus.
Rebel Bert
Unless the JPS school zone map lines were changed then Jim Hill gets all of Wingfield students. Jim Hill will be 7A. Tupelo probably goes back to R1. Jim Hill takes their place.

southpaw27
I agree and i am hearing a few south schools class 3A going to 2A and class 4A dropping to 3A . How will they fit all these teams in regions? I think Meridian next count will drop for sure.

I don't think Jim Hill is very competitive in any sport. If they get some kids from other schools closing it might make a small difference, but the history says not likely. That whole neighborhood is not very conducive to athletics, although Lanier this season is doing quite well with similar demographic hurdles. What is weird is Lanier is now 7th-12th grades on the same campus. Lanier is west of the Baptist Hospital. Provine is located along Ellis Avenue and will be considered a West Jackson School with its middle school feeder program Blackburn adjacently west of Jim Hill. Jim Hill's middle school feeder program is NW Middle School out towards 49 North near Woodrow Wilson West. Plus they now have Peoples Middle School left open near the old Wingfield Campus. Makes no sense for middle school kids having to be bussed south across Lanier and Provine lines to go to Jim Hill. NW middle school kids need to go to Lanier or Murrah. Rebel Bert
My guess is what are reporting much lower numbers than October 2023 as I have reported in my research. So who knows what will happen. Meeting of the minds on October 3rd.
