Kids, or shall I say parents should make sure that their I's are dotted and T's are crossed before they going making decisions about transferring to another school. pancho
funny how tupelo is kinda caught doing the same thing they turned TCPS in for doing a few years ago........ They would have allowed him to play if not for the Nettleton officials checking into whether the supposed move was bonafide etc. I don't doubt one bit the fact that basketball HC Gardner followed up and did his homework. Parents need to realize that often time promises are useless.

Funny how Ty started all that mess, because he was scared his players wanted to leave to go to TCPS and he was trying to get players from TCPS. Now he is trying to get players, he lied about the TCPS deal now he is caught up something needs to be done.
pancho
actually, another HC in north MS tipped Ty off to the shenanigans. This other coach is who actually contacted the MHSAA initially.........

pancho
No, Tupelo and anyone connected (HC, assistants, admins, noted boosters, etc) will not face any reprimands or penalties. This is part of the reason why the connected Nettleton officials stayed on the issue. This QB is not the only kid who left Nettleton in July and tried to simply change schools and start anew at other alee County area schools. Ok, I think we need to make some adjustments to those old policy because in the end the kids are the ones being hurt.
pancho
I agree that improvements are needed. I'm still shocked that a parent or guardian thought they could go thru summer workouts and then just change schools in mid july and be eligible. Because they can’t just up and transfer when things don’t go the way they want them to?
Former Coach
10 hours ago, coachfball87 said: Because they can’t just up and transfer when things don’t go the way they want them to? Agreed, there is no transfer portal in HS athletics. The rule says that if a move is made for athletic purposes the move must be made 60 days prior to the start of school or you sit out a year. If the parents move into a new district for work or new housing or any other legitimate reason at any time then the athlete is eligible unless he or she has practiced with their former team. You can not participate for two different team in the same sport in the same year. It seams that this young man made the move for athletic reasons. TigersFan
I think kids should be able to go where every they want. If they or their parents get mad at a coach on Thursday they should be able to wake up and go somewhere else Friday morning and play that evening. I think we should also subsidize them for what their parents call them, how their face looks and how the are viewed. We could call it NIL for Name-Image-Likeness! This would solve all our problems. But this is what they see from college kids and want to strive for. I know of a high school kid that is a top recruit in the nation and know for a fact that the day he steps on his campus he will become a Millionaire .

So, we teach emotional instability and insecurity instead of mental toughness and communication? Run from a problem instead of resolving it? Sure, just eliminate all districts and boundaries. Throw out all the rules. Make it the wild wild west where everyone is out for everyone and team no longer matters. Had those families done what they were supposed to do then nothing would have happened. End of the story.
pancho
What spear headed this exodus from Nettleton was a new HC when the previous coach took an Admin job at New Albany. coach Bond came in from Houston and implemented what his expectations were from day 1. Being expected to be on time for team activities and being fully connected as a team was a struggle for several players. a couple left and relocated in time but 5 or 6 others lingered through the summer and eventually did leave and enroll elsewhere(with encouragement) but it was simply too late and not legal. I agree the kids are being hurt but most of this lies on the parents or guardians. and yea tigersfan, i personally know a kid who is capable of being a millionaire in college if he displays the ability that he is coachable and that is the area in which most of these nettleton kids fall short. I agree this situation was handled wrong and now the kids are suffering but I also know for a fact kids are told they will be eligible if they move by coaches who only care about winning and do not have the players best interest in mind. This is why I say Coaches should be held accountable also. Not losing their job by maybe losing games or fines.
pancho
I agree but this is ultimately up to the parents and families to do their own research on the issues and not fall for the pie in the sky promises. These coaches simply didn't think the Nettleton school officials would bird dog the transfers. Some players have issues with accountability which ultimately starts in the home. Oh there i go, back with the parents again.
