Dubaction
So after watching Hattiesburg the last two weeks… the defense looks pretty solid.. but I think the lack of offense and consistent QB play should be pretty alarming. Especially against the more elite teams. Luckily though your region top to bottom isn’t much to write home about

Luckily though your region top to bottom isn’t much to write home about After seeing both on the hoof I don’t think Hattiesburg will handle West Jones or Picayune for that matter. West offensive line reminds of them young shoats that WP has every few years with a RB dam near as big as they are. Tony Vance is a fine defensive mind on that side of the ball. On the offensive side he’s stuck in the lower classifications. If the coaches were reversed Hattiesburg would have won by 40+ last night. I don’t want them to do it but if they want a title they should come up with the money and go get that coach in Pass . He knows how to develop a QB. With 10 new starters on defense, that was a perfect game plan. Run the ball, eat clock, limit Laurel's possession's. Need to work on/ clean up the kicking game some. And the hard-count defensive offsides. Seems like every time we break in a new defensive line we go thru this. Our defense is designed to be aggressive, fire off the ball and get up field, which has worked very well for many years. I'm sure they will be working on it. All in all though, I thought it was a good opening game performance by West Jones.

We been working hard in practice and will score more than 7 on Friday. We lost a couple of players thought they were going to play 4 us but otherwise. Offensive line just have to gel together and get it done.

Hopefully that'll be something y'all can build off of and get the offense moving.
Dubaction
Because usually Petal is more well coached/disciplined.

maroontide06
All of this being bad is going to catch up to Laurel (it probably already has and surpassed them). I know it's early, but Region 3-5A is looking way better than Region 4 right now. Natchez, Brookhaven, & South Jones are all currently undefeated in Region 3. Florence is another one you can throw into the mix as well for added sugar.

South Jones: while I do think if they had admin support and kept some family’s hands out of the program while keeping a good coach (current west jones coach Cory Reynolds and Todd breland were both doomed by this) they could be very competitive in 5A south. To the point of being a top 2-3 team in it. Go look at who they beat to be 2-0 right now.

I don’t expect them to be a threat, but as it stands right now region 3 is looking better than region 4. I realize there will be some ebb and flow, but I think if I had to call it today, someone from Region 3 would be the 5A South Representative. Poplarville would definitely boat race all of 5A South at this point. That might be the best path to get Poplarville a state title come to think of it. I’d pay good money to see a Poplarville-West Point finale. You’d be able to count on less than two hands the number of passes thrown in the game. It would definitely have an old school vintage feel to it. Go ahead and bust out the long sleeves and leather helmets.

slicklizard
I was wrong about the Tigers . As long as the offense can half arse pull it's weight that defense is title capable. When them LBers grab someone they get put on the ground.

Sounds like Goula may be the team to beat in Region 4 6a. I think GC holds out Knight until region play. They need him 100%. If he came back this week and reinjures his hamstring their region title hopes are done. They will still make the playoffs but it would probably be an early exit without him

I doubt we see him vs prep and if they can open a lead on Terry without him he won’t come in. Then they have a bye week. He’ll start practicing then and get some time vs prc and whatever the Jackson school is then be back full time for Hattiesburg.

I dont think WJ can take a chance and not play him. If Terry happened to win that one and WJ also lose to Hburg WJ is looking at a 3 seed and playing at Goula or Picayune in Round 1. I think both of those teams are better than George Co even if Deuce Knight is healthy

The offense is explosive with a senior QB who has eliminated the turnovers and sees the field well, an elusive junior RB, and capable wideouts who are very good after the catch. Unsure it's a new defensive signal caller but they are playing better than recent years and the tackling is much improved. Unfortunately, they lost their best LB for the remainder of the regular season to a broken leg but there's still good size in the front seven and they stoned Biloxi in short yardage several times last game. It also helps to have a 6'4" free safety with multiple SEC offers fortifying the back end of the defense. They need to reign in the undisciplined penalties and iron out some special teams' wrinkles but this is 6A south contender and Lewis's best team since the early to mid 2010s although probably not as salty on defense as those units.
