Rebel Bert
Who would you like to see your coach schedule non region?
Dubaction
I’d like to see Oak Grove schedule Madison Central and/or West Jones.
EnterpriseBulldogsFan
I would like to start out with a 4A team like Newton Co West Lauderdale or NE Lauderdale we should also put Quitman back on the schedule. I like playing bigger schools its always cool to beat a larger school.

Those would be good matchups. I’d prefer that to seeing them play MAIS schools (MRA, Greenville Christian) or going out of state to pick up a Hoover or a Rummel. I’d actually like to see them drop the Laurel game and do something more competitive within the MHSAA
Dubaction
Agreed about the private schools. Completely disagree about out of state competition. Good early opponents, a chance to prove ourselves against other great programs in the southern region, and not to mention they’ve all been pretty good games. Beating Hoover was a peak moment for OG history.

Beating Hoover was a peak moment for OG history. Don’t disagree that Hoover was a great moment for OG. But in the end it meant nothing for the state of MS or the region. Not taking anything away from the contest or the win. It just had no implications past that night. A matchup with more bragging rights involved and more opportunity for a yearly rematch would be more exciting long-term. Create some new in-state rivalries with North teams or powerhouse teams in 5/6A who always clamor for more respect. Let’s see a Lewisburg/OG or (as suggested above) a West Jones/OG. THAT would be awesome for the area & prompt a lot of student/fan engagement.
maroontide06
We will probably have our usual mix of Gulfport, d'Iberville, & Ocean Springs which I'm perfectly fine with. If I had to pick some others I would go with Oak Grove, John Curtis, & Poplarville.

You've got to be kidding me. It did mean something to the State of Mississippi and it did mean something to the region. It was a great win. It'd make for a great game.
maroontide06
Speaking of John Curtis, are they still playing their home games at the Shrine on Airline? At least you would get some nice chairbacks to sit in for an away game if they are still playing there.

It did mean something for OG’s record even though last years Hoover team was eventually proven to be subpar by their own standards. However, it meant nothing for anyone else in the state. (If you disagree, please lmk what it meant to other schools in MS and athletes outside OG. Would love to hear your take.) What I am saying is that there is no long-term effect of an OG playing a Hoover. It’s not an annual matchup. It’s not something anyone can count on being a good repeat matchup in successive years. It means nothing in a playoff scenario. Meanwhile, creating another in-state rivalry does have sustainable outcomes for the program and other schools/athletes in the state. And again - the Hoover win was a good one. To be sure. It was a feather in OG’s cap at the time. I know those involved enjoyed it.

Really any time a premier program in MS beats a worthy OOS opponent it means a lot to the state, because we don’t always get our just due in the fact we play a quality brand of football. It’s bigger than bragging rights.
Dubaction
And please understand even a “sub par” Hoover team last year woulda mopped the floor with most teams in Mississippi. They were big, fast, physical, and of course well coached. OG just had a few more playmakers in the skill groups. NoWammies
I’m not a South Panola fan but I sure loved watching them beat Colquitt County GA on ESPN in 2010. Loved watching Oak Grove beat Hoover and always enjoy seeing a MS school beat West Monroe. I’ve enjoyed the OOS games Tupelo has had with TN schools the last couple of years. They seemed to have developed a nice rivalry with Houston TN that I hope continues. Every year when ESPN does their high school games to start off the season I hope we’d get a MS vs OOS game because it gives people around the country a chance to see how MS high school football is. One game I mentioned to some of my LA friends that I would’ve loved to see this year was Hattiesburg vs Edna Karr LA. Hattiesburg to Nola is just hour and 45 mins away. That game would’ve been electric with two 10-0 teams.

Anytime any MS team can get an ESPN game, that’s good for the entire state!

With his utter crsp time management tonight and inability to coach up a wr, he may want to bolt from Wj. I know he’s catching an earful from all directions right now.
