Typically the snubs are the 1A and 2A kids that get left out. I haven't seen many games this year, but in the past there have been at least a half a dozen or more kids from these schools better than players chosen at thier position. They just have that small school stigma so they aren't chosen. The one chosen this year are good choices.

New Heat rules by MHSAA affecting practices?
Former Coach replied to Wareaglefan1us's topic in Football
1a through 4a are basically following the same schedule as it used to be. They are playing the same amount of games, 10. They are allowed a 2 quarter scrimmage, but teams have always had a scrimmage, just not against another team. 5a Through 7a have the option of an 11th game. -
New Heat rules by MHSAA affecting practices?
Former Coach replied to Wareaglefan1us's topic in Football
I played in the mid 80's. We began practice the 2nd week of August, somewhere around the 10th. We went 3 days of shorts and helmets and 2 days of shoulder pads the first week before beginning full pads for 3 weeks. First game was the last week of August, usually around 29th-31, maybe September 1 or 2. The state championship games were the first weekend in December just as they are now. This is the same exact schedule the MHSAA is using now with two exceptions. 1. 1st week is mandated shorts and helmets only and week 2 can add shoulder pads. No full pads the 1st 10 days. -

All depends on cloud cover. Its cloudy and chance of thunder storms in parts of N. MS today so heat won't be an issue, just storms. Latter part of last week and over weekend wet bulb, which is what is used was anywhere from 88 to 93. -
New Heat rules by MHSAA affecting practices?

This is why the MHSAA instituted the rule. They were advised by the Medical and Trainers Council that they work with as well as their attorney. Yes, like many, i drank water from a hose, rode in the back of a pick up, and many other things that those of us from the 70's and 80's did. These kids today don't do that. They sit in the house and play video games except for the couple of hours each day of workouts they may have. They don''t walk or ride a bike everywhere they go like we did. Yes, most are going to be taken care of by their coaches with plenty of water breaks, rest breaks, and other things, however, in todays society it's just not worth the risk of the big L word. -
Executive committee meets tomorrow to go over and approve classifications and regions. I don"t know if it will be officially released tomorrow but I"m sure there will be some unofficial leaks if it"s not.
-
You have 41 teams listed with 6 in region 1. 2 through 4 A will have 40 teams and 5 per region. Iif there is a basketball only team then there will 4 football schools plus the bb only school and all will make playoffs.
-
Both the 7:30 kickoff change and the 105 heat index recommendation came from the Sports Medicine Advisory Committee. All boils down to the L word (liability). The 105 heat index is just a recommendation, not a requirement, to move practice indoors or later in the evening. In Tennessee if the heat index hits 105 they are not allowed to practice. I have talked to coaches that this time of year only get a couple practices a week in, and that's waiting until 7:00 or after to begin.

That is correct. Once the score reaches 35 point differential at any point in 2nd half the clock runs for the duration of the game except for extra points, time outs, injury, and first downs. If Team A subs and Team B doesn't and cuts the score under 35, doesn't matter, clock keeps rolling. I like the rule. However I think 35 is too many for basketball. Basket ball needs to be no more than 25.

It was brought before the coaches, AD's and principals/superintendents at the athletic administrators conference in January. In an informal vote it passed overwhelmingly. Was tabled at the February MHSAA meeting( with overwhelming support) until preliminary numbers could be seen. Had numbers for April meeting and it passed. It may be a good thing, it may be bad, that's to be seen. But as JagsFan77 said it wasn't about money.
-
Exactly correct. A proposal from a school is voted on at the district meeting by each school, one vote per school. . If it passes at district level it then goes before the Legislative council made up of representatives from all 8 districts chosen by the schools of that district. If it passes Legislative council it goes to the executive committee. If it passes there then that proposal has passed once. All proposals must pass twice. If the district or legislative council votes against it then the proposal is dead. If the executive committee votes it down then the proposal goes back to legislative council for a possible override vote where 60% is needed. If legislative council overrides executive committee it passes.

Reclassification Could Occur As Soon as This Fall (22-23)

I said this same thing the other day. The schools overwhelmingly supported this and the ones complaining don't really have a dog in the race. -

Correct. I think this was just to give them an idea so they could see how it would shake out. They will use the numbers that come out in October '22 just like they always do. -

The proposal voted on has 2A-4A with 40 teams broken down to 5 teams per region. The remainder(roughly 52 teams will be in 1A evenly divided into 8 regions. -
I think I read somewhere that nearly 80% of portal entries don't resign with anyone so I'm not sure there are that many kids not getting signed. Also, the extra Covid year has been the bigger issue here. I'm not sure but it seems that the portal pick ups OM and State had were to replace the guys that left their programs for the portal, but I may be wrong. There does need to be some rule changes when it comes to transfers. Call me old school, but I think they should have to sit out a year. I know the argument is what if the coach leaves. Again old school but you should be committing to a school, not a coach. However, if the coach leaves then allow the player to go with the coach without sitting out. If they go anywhere else sit out a year. The bigger problem is the NIL, but that's a whole different game.

It will happen in 22. In October the numbers will be turned in, schools will be placed in classifications and regions, and it will be released around the State Championships like always. Play will begin in fall of 23. -
If they go to 7A The games will be played over 3 days. 2 on Thursday, 2 on Friday, and 3 on Saturday.
-
I think that may be the case, but honestly not sure.

Only schools that are on a multiplier are OLA and St. Stan. There is talk of either adding a multiplier or playing up a class for Tupelo Christian(private school already in MHSAA) and any other MAIS schools that want to join the MHSAA.
-
There is talk of going to a 9-11 count. Can't use 8-11 because some schools 8th grades feed multiple high schools.
