If 8th-10th grade numbers stay where they are at come October they will be 7A in 2027. That also hinges on this week's meeting that will determine a 1 year reclassification or a 2 year reclassification. If its one year and they extend the current 2024 numbers for 1 year then we will see come 2028.

This bill is currently sitting in Senate Education Committee. I think the deadline is approaching early February.

Early Alabama School Choice numbers are in: 1) 75% of students qualify for the $7000. 2) 0-100% poverty, 100-200% poverty, 200- 300% poverty all almost evenly split between upper 20% & lower 30%. 3) 61% of white students 25% of black students 14% Hispanic, other races. Most important as I have said certain parents just simply are not going transfer their kids from public to private, failing to improving or better schools. Those kids in Wilkinson County, Holmes County, etc will just not seek to do better especially if its going them sending kids to another out of county school.

I don't either but I guess non of us really knows how the proposal reads. What i know came from the directors podcast. And I don't know any school that has played an Arkansas school in quite sometime. Now I do wonder if they are just going to extend the current reclassification for 1 year and then count the numbers in October 2027.

Council meeting Thursday to vote on 1 year reclassification lining up with Alabama and Louisiana or stick to 2 year reclassification staying lined up with Arkansas and Tennessee. Seems like all 5 states need have a meeting with intentions to line up as one.

They all gathered at Faulkner University and vowed to be united with AHSAA and keep fighting to improve their situation.

Apparently in this bill a student is allowed to live in one district and attend another district with a parents signature. The school boards then must discuss the the transfer as it is allowed.

Perhaps if a pool of money from the state goes in with MHSAA getting cut, school booster clubs getting a cut, and athletes getting a cut to stay home and go to school locally perhaps it can work. You can't simply expect small towns with very few businesses to drop a good chunk of money to athletes. Larger towns like Flowood, Hattiesburg, the coastal towns, and Tupelo more so with participants.

Any news on the zoom meeting? How it went, etc.

No haven't heard anything as to Hig wanting it. Giving it a thought Waynesboro might be a little closer to Heidelberg than Raleigh is. His mom had passed away during 22 championship run and there was rumor he wanted get closer to his dad. You can't blame him there. I really think it comes down to who Hathorne wants. At least it seems like he will fight for his preferred choice.

They should go to Region 2 5A and Sumrall drops down to Leake Central.

AHSAA has 6 classes for public schools and 2 Divisions now for private schools.I think 48 private schools play in AHSAA but 1 is non football. Basically it amounts to 8 state championship games. Don't be surprised that some one attempt to pull this 8 classes on MHSAA in the future. If MAIS just happen to fold well then maybe a merge or takeover. But I don't see it happening. Maybe a few more in the future do what PCS has done.
