One team and coach that comes to mind as far as outperforming expectations is Clarkdale and 1st year Head Coach Rob Roberts. They have doubled last season’s win total at the midway point of the season with a record of 6-0. I think it’s very possible they go 9-1 with a lone loss to one of the best teams in the state (Heidelberg) and make a deep run in the playoffs.1 point

Brandon is only averaging 14ppg right now. Both Petal and Brandon played Clinton. Brandon beat clinton 14-9 while Petal beat Clinton 20-3. Brandon and Oak Grove also played Starkville with OG losing like 58-57 and Brandon losing 22-14. 7a south may be more about matchups than talent when the playoffs start1 point

I will have to give you credit about Petal being decent and looking better than any of the average looking 6A and 5A teams in the south. That still won’t stop the smile I get when they get sent home again. For this topic I don’t know how Brandon looks but Oak Grove is getting their legs under them and that’s bad news for everyone else in the south.1 point

I didn't think about that, but that's absolutely correct. It looks like Gulfport's only real test will be when they have to travel to d'Iberville, but they could still clinch the 1 seed with 1 district loss.1 point

After Gulfport upset of Ocean Springs, I will go ahead and give Gulfport the region 4 title and Ocean Springs no.2 seed. I dont see either of them losing again in region play. Which leads me to saying Ocean Springs hosting a 3 seed in either Brandon Oak Grove or Petal is going to feel more like it should be a south state final than an opening round game.1 point

I think DuBose is a jam up coach in a no-win situation. Similar to French. Biloxi is notorious for not fully supporting athletics the way they need to. He also is used to the Wild West of Alabama where recruiting is second nature and part of the deal. He is struggling to get players over to Biloxi and that is hindering him as well. @Archersummed it up pretty well with his statement on the multiple time divorcee. LOL.1 point

Biloxi football reminds me of a multiple time divorcee who never looks in the mirror and says "Maybe it's me." Now he may have had a bad coaching game -- it happens to the best of 'em -- but Dubose won championships at two different schools at the highest level of Alabama competition (which is more dog eat dog than Mississippi) so I doubt the game has passed him by since his last title in 2018.1 point
